Artisan’s Asylum is a vibrant community workshop - we're a 52,000 SF fabrication wonderland where the arts, learning and entrepreneurship come alive.

About Artisans Asylum

We manage two adjacent open innovation spaces in the heart of Allston-Brighton. We host shared workshops, artist studios, classes and community events. As a non-profit community work space we strive to connect anyone with access to the tools and talent needed to build the things they love. Contact our front desk to learn more!

Our workshops, classes, open studio environment and supportive community are a platform for unfettered creativity, lifelong learning, and innovative entrepreneurship.

Why Making?

Making is a voluntary act of ingenuity and agency. When we make—as artists, engineers, and hobbyists—we transform bits and atoms into the stuff of dreams and livelihoods. Sometimes we make the world a better place. We nearly always improve ourselves along the way.

Artisan’s Asylum is a singular environment for making. We have grown from a 2,500 SF shared workshop into a 52,000 SF fabrication wonderland where imagination comes alive. We foster the conditions for freedom of thought, collaboration and agency necessary for anyone to build the things people get passionate about. An investment in the teaching, practice and culture of making is a recognition of the fundamental human impulse to create and to solve problems. And the benefits are many, including emotional, intellectual and social resilience.

Our Vision & Mission

Artisans Asylum envisions a world enlivened by makers. We imagine a whole society where everyone feels welcome to share their talents and ceaselessly develop their capabilities, contributing to the social, cultural and economic vibrancy of our communities.

Our mission as an inclusive, not-for-profit community workshop is to advance the learning, practice and culture of do-it yourself (“DIY”) fabrication. We strive to provide anyone with access to the tools and training necessary to develop creative confidence and build the things they love.
